Associate Large Animal Veterinarian and Former Owner
Dr. Matt Anderson has dedicated his entire career to Anderson Veterinary Service, where he has spent the last 36 years serving producers and livestock throughout the region. With a primary focus on large animal medicine and additional expertise in small ruminants, Dr. Matt has built a reputation for practical, hands-on care and strong relationships with the farming community.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Matt contributed seven years of service on the Minnesota Board of Animal Health, where he helped guide animal health policy and safeguard livestock across the state. He is also an active member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) and the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), remaining engaged in continuing education and professional development.
Dr. Matt finds the most fulfillment in working alongside producers to identify bottlenecks in their operations. Whether the challenge is related to health, nutrition, or management, he enjoys troubleshooting with producers, finding practical solutions, and seeing the results translate into healthier animals and stronger performance. One especially rewarding case involved helping a local dairy dramatically reduce incidents of Mycoplasmic pneumonia, a success that reinforced his love for the profession and the tangible impact veterinary medicine can have on farms.
Professionally, Dr. Matt has developed a strong interest in feedlot medicine and management, where he enjoys the challenge of improving herd health and efficiency on a larger scale. More recently—and much to the good-natured dismay of his daughters—he has also become deeply involved in the world of show pigs. Over time, he has earned the unofficial title of “family show pig expert,” whether his daughters like it or not.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Matt’s greatest pride is his family. He and his wife, Stacie, have raised two daughters, Gretta and Neva, who have been heavily involved in 4-H, showing nearly every species of livestock at one point or another. When he’s not on a farm call or at the clinic, there’s a good chance you’ll find Dr. Matt on the golf course, conveniently located right across the road from AVS—a factor that may or may not have influenced the clinic’s current location.
For Dr. Matt, veterinary medicine has always been about more than just animals—it’s about relationships, problem-solving, and supporting the producers and families who form the heart of agriculture.
